Today was a good day. I went to the temple and did some temple work for some of Eric and Michelle's family members. After that we went to the West Shore and saw some amazing waves. That was a great place to visit. It was quite run down and I would say the poor side of the island. There was a tent city of homeless and squatters, however with them being on the beach they had a great spot.

Today we went back to Pearl Harbor. The other day when we were there we did not get to see the Pacific Aviation Museum or the other sites. Today we went through the museum and also the USS Bowfin. A submarine that was put into the water as an avenger to Pearl Harbor. December 7th, 1942.

We then went to Hanauma Bay. Oh my. I love snorkeling. I plan on coming back here a few more days before we leave.

We took an easy day today and didn't drive anywhere really. We ended up staying around the hotel and walked down to Waikiki Beach. It is within walking distance and is very popular and crowded. Well things have been good. Busy and lots going on, but good. I've gotten a new calling in church that keeps my at church very long on Sundays and Wednesday nights, but I love it. I'm learning so much. I started my Masters program and that is going well. Most of all, I'm looking forward to summer, camping, fishing and enjoying life.

I haven't had a chance to pick up the camera for a little while, so I thought I would recently and these are my outcomes.

As we were driving around today we came across these few items. I thought they were pretty cool. I wish I could have gotten closer to a bunch of them, mostly the windmills. I love Windmills.

This was a spot in the middle of no where and we were actually driving and it was flat all around us, we stopped to take pictures of the bridge (next image) and we could hear the water. It was getting pretty dark, so we plan to return tomorrow to check it out further and get some better pictures.

This is the bridge that was near the falls above. It was a one lane wood and steel bridge. Very cool looking, I also like bridges. Today was a good day for Bryon's favorite structures.

This is a windmill farm near Heber, Arizona. I tried getting closer, but anything closer was requiring 4 wheel drive or to trespass. Neither of which I was looking to do since I was in the mother-in-law's Chevy Traverse and she was in the car. =)

This is a little windmill found at a local tourist trap off of I-40 called Geronimo's. These types of windmills are found all over the place. This was a good opportunity to get close to capture the look and structure.

NRAO - National Radio Astronomy Observatory

Sunday we took a trip into New Mexico. This was the first time my family had been in there. It was a great time. The views were amazing, because of all the rain this time of the year, so many things are green. It was also raining a fair amount of the time on the way out. We were headed for NRAO - VLA. Which translates to "National Radio Astronomy Observatory - Very Large Array" You may have seen it already yourself on TV if you have seen the movie Contact. It was pretty quiet. There were not many people. You can see some of the images below.

This one one Radio Telescope in for repair. Notice that there is a triangular shape at the bottom left of the enclosure. This is the covering over a normal sized door. These dishes are the size of a baseball diamond on the in field.

First New Lawnmower!

This season of lawn mowing has been quite short. We finally got our back yard completed and with that came lawn and lawn growing. A few weeks ago I got out the old and I really do mean old, it was old before I got it. However it didn't even finish the front lawn before locking up and dying. Oh well, I had a back up. It was harder to start and that is why I used the old one, but that is okay, it has a bag. Well this one the primer housing is cracked and now the rubber primer button was gone and it was not going to start. (Yes, there was gas in it). Alright, I guess I was not meant to cut the lawn. So, I call the trusty neighbor kid (Dylan) to cut the front lawn until we can figure out what we want to do with the lawn mower situation.

A couple weekends go by with us out of town to Moab and to Wolf Creek, Utah. Both places were a blast with great company. But, but this point the back lawn is getting LONG. The not so small dogs are starting to disappear. So, my friend Bryan offers his riding lawn mower. Oh yea, style! I go and pick it up, keep in mind I have to hook up the trailer and drive 2 miles North to pick it up. I get it home, unload it and ready to mow. It does the front lawn with its 17 HP Briggs and Stratton with a 42" deck in no time at all. Until I'm nearly done and there is a big POOF of smoke, flame and oil spitting out of it. I stop it as quickly as possible. Nothing was under it, I didn't hit anything. And it isn't starting. Oil is starting to leak out the side and I'm afraid it is done for. I get it pushed into the garage, it is starting to get dark and there isn't anything I'll be doing with it that night. The next day I inspect it with Bill and it is obvious that something has tried to throw itself out of the case. It is split and oil has leaked all over the card board box I put it over. Unfortunately this will be the final lawn mowing for this Murray Monster!

Tonight it was time for a new lawn mower. I had been browsing the KSL ads and nothing looked good. So forget it. I'll go buy a new manly mower. (Not riding...it was just too big for the lawn, even though it was so much fun.) Well as you can see below, I got a nice Craftsman from Sears, platinum edition all the bells and whistles along with read wheel drive, which I really like. Works so much easier then the front wheel drive. It does tend to do wheelies though!

I cannot quite finish the title of the post...but soon enough I can. I do not know what got into me to take so many classes to finish up early. Yea I do, I was tired of all school and no breaks. Has it been busy? Yes. Has it been hard? At times. Have I got little sleep? About the same, but I'm doing homework instead of gaming. What fun is that?

Things I'm glad for:

Good friends and family that stand by me in a semester that I have missed 3 birthdays of my dearest friends (I'll be making this up to each of you, you know who you are).
To have more time with my family and friends.
A graduation gift (wait how did that get in there?)
To be able to get up on a Saturday and not think about a 8 hour lab report ahead of me in order to finish and start 6 homework problems that take me 2 hours a piece and then wake up early for a 7:30a class on Monday.
To work a 40 hour week without leaving for 3 hours a day in the middle of it.
and many more...

In short. I'm stoked to be nearing completion. I never thought it would come. I was thinking I was going to be a lifer.

My favorite saying as of late, "It is nice to know that the light of the tunnel is actually daylight and not the light of a locomotive coming your direction"

Things I'm looking forward to:

Hobbies, Gaming (board games, XBox, everything and anything. Ken is already stoked with the announcement of Gears of War 3...April...2011)
Exercise (I know this is odd, but I'm feeling really fat and lack of time to eat brings really bad habits for early morning classes and late night homework sessions)

Thanks again everyone. I'll update you as time comes closer, this semester is nearing completion. I only have a couple more homeworks, quizzes and 2 the first week of May. I do have Senior Design Day on Tuesday, we are still needing to do a couple things, but we will get it running and wrap that project up here soon, hopefully this weekend. I'll post pictures of it once I get it finished. I'll also have pictures of the 'parachair' that I'm working on for Ablepilot.com a non-profit organization for para and quadriplegic's who still want to paraglide.

I can already tell that 2010 is going to be full of surprises and craziness! That is okay, it keeps things interesting. I'm looking forward to starting my Spring 2010 semester, I'm nearing completion and although I will not be graduating this May, I will be graduating next year. Some important things to mention, after this semester, I will have the hardest classes out of the way. I'll have to follow up with a couple technical elective classes, a general education and my last manufacturing class. I'm so excited and very much so looking forward to being done and having that Bachelors.

I would like to take a moment and mention how important life is and how we must cherish those around us. Life can be so short and full of surprises. We must thank those around us and appreciate what they have to offer. I know that I love my friends and family very much and I'm thankful for those around me. You all bring strength and happiness to my life and I hope that I can only bring a fraction of the happiness ya'll do. (little Texan for my friend Larry) But I mean it and I know it is a little mushy, but you know who you are and I'm thankful.

Now lets Rock this 2010! Year 2000 didn't get us and neither will 2010!

New Family Member

It has been a couple weeks at this point, but I thought I would introduce our newest family member. His name is 'Schultz' he is a 12.5 year old schnauzer. His previous family could not take care of him any longer and they were having issues finding him a home. He is the sweetest thing ever. Though his dog tags have Schultz "Me Monster" on it, so I'm not sure what that means. He is such a good dog he is mostly interested in cuddling and laying around. He doesn't like to be hugged around the neck for any reason, but he has no issues coming up and laying on you and letting you pet him all night. I'm really hoping that some of his good behavior will rub off onto my hounds. It is safe to say that it is good we have a king size. When we get 3 dogs, 2 adults, 1 child and a partirdge in a pear tree laying in our bed…it is a party.

The picture below is of the trio we have. He is the size of Thor but the coloring of Odin. They all get along well, Odin is still a bully at times and will scold Schultz and Thor, but he has always done that. Having Schultz in the family has helped our dogs become more cuddly, they want the lov'ins also.

Labor Day Weekend Fun

This has been a gret weekend. Today (Sunday) we went up American Fork Canyon for a picnic with Michelle's brother. After that we took her brother and his wife home and went to drive around a bit. The weather was so nice and the temperature was perfect. We were going to drive over the mountain through Alpine. We never made it...instead we ended up at the Utah Flight Park State Recreation Area at Point of the Mountain watching hang gliders and paragliders. This was a great experience. It was the last day for the open house and although Michelle and I had worked at the open house a couple times, we still did not have the chance to take friends and family and check it out. We loved it and had a great time. I wish more would have been able to make it.

Dane Cook, Long Weekend, What else?

With a long weekend coming up, Friday off and Thursday night Dane Cook. What more could I ask for? Have I gone to heaven. Most likely, I live with two angels. I'm looking forward to having some fun. Not sure what else will be happening, but I'm sure we will manage.

The weather was awesome tonight coming out of the show. Drove home with the windows down and the radio playing, sport'n the Corolla and watching for the fuzz!

Dane Cook was the gracious gift from a friend for my birthday and I wish he would have gone with me and Michelle. But, I would have to say it was well worth the money he spent on them for me! As for presents, I was really spoiled this year. Some other friends took Michelle and I to the Motocross Western Championships. That was a blast. I still need to get some pictures of that one.

Wow. I do not know what to do with myself. It is so nice to be out of school and it has been less then a week. We have gotten yard stuff done, we have relaxed. I was even home at 4p this week. That was amazing, I am usually getting home at 7p or later with just enough time to eat and give Morgenn a kiss on her way to bed. I think that I'm going to like this no school thing.

So what should we do? I know I want to check out some Ghost Towns and do some fishing, shooting, etc. I'm up for anything.

Summer

Can I just say how excited I am for summer to almost be here? I am so close it hurts. All that stands in my way is 1 Design final on Thursday morning. To help ring in the new summer I have a full set of events planned for this weekend.

I just want to give thanks to a good friend of mine that did this awesome logo you see on the site. We appreciate the hard work and adding the flare we needed for the blog. We are not more complete.

Other then that, school is going well. Wednesday is the competition for our robots that we have been working on for 2 semesters. I'm still not sure how it will turn out. There is so much stuff we could have done differently, but it will be what it is. Then 2 finals next week and I can start my summer.

Plans for the summer include riding my dirt bike as often as possible, along with constant camping and fishing. We also have some family reunions and other great things just waiting. I'm thinking the summer is going to go so fast. I hope it doesn't go too fast.

Alive and Well

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are all alive and well. Michelle's parents were in town all week. That was fun. They returned home to sunny Arizona after a week in the snow. We also purchased their '97 WT 1500 Chevy for camping purposes. We hooked it up to the trailer and drove it around for a little while. It accomplished 2 things, making sure it was going to work...it will...and also making us really really wanting to go camping. =)

Other then that, my birthday is coming up and I have a super busy week of school stuff. Which really sucks. But, I cannot put a whole semester behind me for one day. I'll party with Michelle and the family starting Friday night. Other then that, I will have to do what I can. I will actually end up spending my birthday night at the U studying for a Mechatronics test that I have the following morning. Oh well...that is the life of a student.

Morgenn 0 - Desk 1

So what happens with Morgenn decides to battle the desk...with her forehead...well the desk wins. Morgenn at school got up from her desk and started running somewhere, ended up tripping and hit her head on a shelf of some sort nearby. This ended up causing her to get 3 stitches. But, she was a trooper and did really good. When she didn't do well was when the nurse brought in this HUGE syringe that "looked" like a needle, when in reality all she was doing was using it to flush the wound before numbing it. Morgenn then needed to be held down for a moment and was heart breaking when she said, "Please, just let me sit up...please" I know. How can you resist. She is fine and doing really well with them, they will be removed on Monday night.

It is amazing how time flies, before you know it a month has zipped past. That probably has nothing to do with 25 hours of school and 40 hours of work and then spending as much time with family as possible.

This post isn't about anything in particular. Just more of an update and open thinking. Morgenn's birthday was this week...our little "aka not so little" girl is 5 years old. Amazing. See what I mean about the little birdies...they just fly on by so quickly.

School is pretty good, busy always something to be doing. I like the stuff, a lot of interesting things we are studying now, but the homework the tests. No fun.

If you are not using facebook, you really need to check it out. Michelle and I have both been having a lot of fun with getting reacquainted with old friends. A lot of High School friends. You also get to harass all your favorite people a lot more easily then with just email. =)

Well, I'm looking to be doing more blogging and even thought about a podcast. I'm not sure what I would cast about, but I have always wanted to do one. So, if you have suggestions or want to be part of it, that would be awesome. I'm looking for a partner in crime that has similar interests and passion to talk about something .

Well gonna run, I'm super tired, falling asleep as I type this already.

Well it has been good. The holidays were awesome and the new year was celebrated with friends and good times. A week of work under my belt I guess it is time to get back to the school thing. So close my teeth almost hurt and I can certainly see light...I know it is light, small, but light. =)

No resolutions, just things I'm going to to better at. One of which is getting the hang of the layout on the blog. This horrible design keeps coming back to haunt me. I have some how overwritten the default background and no matter what I do it keeps coming back. Maybe I'll talk one of my blogging friends to help me...what do you say Mae or Sis Porter?

Well it's a school night, I shouldn't be up too late. =)

FE Exam

For a little background here, at the University of Utah it is a requirement for graduation that you pass a National Engineering Test. It is called the FE Exam, short for Fundamentals of Engineering. The test is only given 2 times a year and every Engineering student that has signed up for it across the Nation takes it on the same day at their location of choice, for us this year it was at the Salt Palace Convention Center. I didn't talk to many people there, but I had talked to the lady sitting next to me for a moment and she had come up from Cedar City with a few other people.

Reference Manual (approx. 240 pages)

A little about the test, it consists of a 4 hour morning session and a 4 hour afternoon session, 120 questions and 60 questions respectively. There are strict rules, such as only using their pencil, no hats, absolutely no cell phones/pdas, hats, etc. We arrive at 7:15a, wait for 30 minutes why others straggle in, they explain and pass out books. Then you do it again when the pick up the books, goto lunch, wait, pass out the books, in short, it was very time consuming. Getting there around 7a, I left just before 6p. A very crazy test with many questions in a short time. The only reference we are allowed is a 240 page book of equations basically. I took this test back in October, 25th to be exact. The results take 6-8 weeks.

After a long and patient wait, I got those results on Dec. 16th, I'll go into those details in another post, but for now, lets just say I will NOT be taking this test again, since I got a PASS. I'm very pleased, I took it early enough that I had not taken a couple classes that consist of about 5-10% of the test.

Rhino-the-bot

As part of my Mechanical Engineering degree we are required to take Mechatronics. In short, it is a 2 semester class that enable us to use many classes and knowledge that we have learned to date. Therefore with a team of 4, Markus, David, Shane and myself, we created what we call the Rhino bot. This has been a fun project and I look forward to fine tuning and working on it next semester with these guys. They have all been great and we are pleased with the outcome. Apparently so is the professor, I have been told that we are the only group to score nearly perfect with the professor on our robot demonstration that we had on Monday.

With Halloween passed and the extra pumpkins getting soft, Ken decided that we needed to give them a proper disposal. And that we did. As you can see in the picture below what a couple shots with a 12ga shotgun will do.

It was a lot of fun, friendships renewed and best of all...I won a few of the shooting matches we had. I couldn't ask for anything better.

What a week...school is coming to an end. This is the last week of classes, our robot demonstration was yesterday (more to come on that) and then 2 finals next week.

As for the robot demonstration, it was good. I was very pleased. We sure had to put some last minute work into it. I was up from 4:15a Monday morning until 3:15a Tuesday morning. I got to sleep for almost 4hrs before I was back up at 7a. There were a few more things yesterday that we had to clean up and we did it. I had to leave for school with the finished upper deck no later then 3:30p. No later, it takes me 30 minutes to drive to the U from work and our demonstration was at 4p. I left at 3:25p. Thanks to many people, My Team and also Scott and Taylor from work here. I will post some pictures, I think I'm back to a normal routine, I was pretty tired last night. All we have left for this class is to finish a final lab memo.

As for the house stuff....I know I know...I still need pictures for that also. I'll get them. But, the house is really coming together. We still have some finishing items for the basement, but we are moved down there and using the office and watching the TV down there. We also cleaned the upstairs TV room out which was technically the master bedroom, cleaned the carpets and got our bed moved into there. Michelle started painted the day before last and that is coming along really well. I expect that it will be painted by weekend.

Well gotta run, talk to everyone later and look for some pictures coming in the next day or so.

Thanksgiving

I just wanted to take a moment and share how thankful I am for so many things. I am thankful for my wife, Michelle, for all that she puts up with and does for me. I am thankful for my daughter, Morgenn, for the things I learn from her including patience some days. I am thankful for my Lord Jesus Christ for the sacrifices he has made in our behalf and for the Atonement that will allow us to all be together for eternity.

There are also so many other people that I cannot list them because I know that I would forget some names. But, you know who you are and I do appreciate you as Friends and Family and I love everyone one of you. Without your support life would be more difficult and not as enjoyable.

I am thankful for my shelter and my job for it allows me to keep my family warm and dry. For my job that allows me to put food on the table and many luxury's that I don't need but am allowed to have.

Thank you everyone, for everything.

With all the walking around we did, Michelle and I realized that it was 2p and we had not eaten in a while. So we had both told that pizza was a must while in Chicago. So, we found Giordano's and can I saw, WOW. The pizza was amazing, seriously, it was the best I have had, ever. We had stuffed crust with canadian bacon and black olives. The ambience was fun and the people nice. I'm very glad that we found Giordanos for it will be the one to beat for some time, I'm sure of it.

I have seen a few friends do this. So I decided I wanted to do it also. I think it really helps you look at yourself and see what is happening in your life. I think it is soul searching and very informative.

Well, I attempted to install our IKEA floors....and well...I suck. It doesn't seem that hard and I was close, but when I was trying to put the second row up it was having little gaps. So, I went to buy the rest of the electric stuff. I have had fun with the electrical. It is amazing making light!

On vacation to Arizona out for a hike on some Hopi Indian grounds we came across this colorful little fella. It was pretty odd, there were many other crazy looking grasshoppers and lizards. None of which I was able to get a good picture of. This was the best by far. No image modifications at all, this is off the camera.

Things are going well here in Arizona. Feels nice to have a bit of a break, even though I have done a fair amount of homework while here. We have still been able to see some wonderful places. We have been taking drives through the White Mountains. Being able to visit places like Alpine, Arizona and even a lodge called Talwiwi. I wish it was closer then a 10-hr drive to some of these places because I would love to go camping and explore more of these places on the 4-wheeler.

I went on one little camping trip and I came back so behind and with so much school work to do, I'm still digging myself out of the hole. Don't worry the blog is not forgotten, but it is gonna be a little slow for this month. I have some large school projects due early this week and then the Densley crew leaves for Arizona next week for Fall Break.

Sleep will be nice, one day. Keep the comments flowing though. We love seeing them. In a few days I will have some more images to share. We did family pictures yesterday with Michelle's family and I think they turned out pretty good.

The long awaited Warhammer Online is finally drawing near. As some of you know, myself and a few close friends have been waiting for this game for sometime. But, that doesn't matter, Pre-Orders get to play on Tuesday, the Collectors Edition started Sunday morning.

Basement Progress

Michelle has been working really hard and I wanted to post some of the progress. We currently have the ceiling and walls with their final coats. We need to pick out our crown molding so we can get that painted and hung up. After that, we will be making a trip to Ikea for some of their Tundra Antique wood flooring. We are pretty excited and I really appreciate all the work Michelle has put into the basement.

Michelle and I for sometime have been saying we wanted a blog so that we can keep in touch with family and friends easier. We have multiple friends with their blogs and they all do a great job in adding things and sharing their lives. They also have catchy names and I could never think of something cool that would represent our family and what we are about.

Well today, we have one!

The story behind it started with Michelle waking me up this morning saying something was wrong with one of the dogs and that they might have been stuck. So I get out of bed and put flip flops...I like to call them thongs, but I get in trouble...so I'm outside looking real "guud" and they were not stuck, rather they had trapped a animal under the tongue of our 4 wheeler trailer. So I call them off and get them in the house and Odin's beard is full of mud and blood. So I get him cleaned off as much as possible to make sure he isn't bleeding or hurt and I do not see anything.

At this point, I need to find out what is out there, there was way too much blood for it to be a mouse...plus it was making a cry for help that I had never heard and was too loud for a small rodent. So I take the princess flashlight out there and lift the tongue up and this hideous thing runs out...not really, it wasn't hideous, but it did take off. It looked like a squirrel or prairie dog. Oh well. I go back in since it is early and I can still make it to work on time. I wanted to make sure the dogs were good to go for the day so I let them out before I leave for work. And what do I hear within minutes....you go it...they cornered the thing again. So I get out there and call them off, again.

By this point Michelle is worried about the dogs and we end up calling animal control to make sure things are alright, they add us to the list and I wait. They really didn't take long to get there, it was not more then a few minutes after I finished getting ready that West Jordan Animal Control arrived. So, we went into the backyard and it was still trapped where the dogs had left it the second time. They attempted to cage the animal but it hobbled off because it has only 3 legs. We ended up finding the other leg in the yard near the trailer.

We rooted through the weeds near the gate and we were unable to find it, it must have taken off, I let the dogs back out while I rooted through with a shovel and we didn't turn anything else up.

So that was my morning and I wasn't even that late to work...I still clocked in by 8:30A and the start of the killerschnauzers blog!
